As part of our 2nd year collaborative project we are in the middle of creating a magazine. The magazine that we are creating is called TRIPT magazine and it focuses on past and present important issues with a playful retro aesthetic whilst also celebrating youth culture and activism. We plan to draw inspiration from the 60’s/70’s from the trends in fashion at the time as well as the retro aesthetic but to also bring it into the present and make it more modern. Not only will we be bringing past trends to the current day but also to focus on past issues such as the Civil Rights Movement and reflect on how these issues are still very much relevant and to directly address these current issues such as Black Lives Matter. This magazine will focus on heavy subjects, not just BLM but also subjects such as LGBTQ+ and feminism. We plan to be inclusive and actively aim to empower and include underrepresented groups. Although the magazine will have a colourful, playful aesthetic we don’t want this to take away from the important and serious issues we will be talking about but instead want to try and bring light into dark times.
This is the brand persona board i created for our magazine. The primary target audience for our magazine is students and your adults, we chose this age bracket because of the serious and political subjects that will be raised within the magazine. Although it talks about serious issues the graphics and colour scheme will be colourful and arty so the reader would most likely be a creative student that is passionate about the issues raised and is an advocate for change. With the retro and psychedelic aesthetic they would also have a love for past fashion trends as well as have an interest in raves, music and just general youth culture.
This is the brand board that i created for TRIPT magazine. In this brand board it shows the kind of graphic and bold images we plan to take, as well as different illustrations as we plan for this magazine to be heavily illustration based too. The main font we plan to use for the articles is Futura. I chose this font as i felt it was more playful with its rounded shapes and this will fit better with our aesthetic. When researching into this font i also found that it was a highly popular font that was used in big historic events such as the moon landing, i liked that this would be another way to bring the past into the future which is what our magazine is about. The font i plan to use for the headings is ‘Keep on Trucking’, i chose this font as its a retro font and that is a big part of our aesthetic. In order to make the keep on truckin font more updated and modern i plan to use the liquify tool to distort it in different ways, this will also make it so each heading doesn’t look the same. As the magazine will also be heavily illustration based i also plan to use a mixture of these fonts and hand written lettering.
