Introduction to Visual Promotion Final reflection
On the 9th May I handed in my final project for first year, Introduction to visual promotion
On reflection for this module overall I found it the most challenging yet out of first year. One reason for this is that I didn’t manage my time the best I could have which in the end was slightly self sabotaging. Visual promotion is not one of my favourite work fields and therefore I felt I could not express my true creativity within the project which may have held me back from reaching my full potential with the work I produced. Personally, I found that having the module to complete during a long easter break made things very challenging as I did not feel I was receiving enough lessons and lectures to accompany the amount of work given. I found this difficult as already I was struggling with the general topic of the module. If I was to do this module again I would definitely arrange my time management a lot better which would have allowed me more time to use more creativity within my work. I also would have chosen a different parent brand and created a different more original concept alongside within my sub brand. The brand I probably would have chosen is Acne Studios or State Of Disarray.
After attending the initial introduction lecture to this project I wasn’t’t 100% sure what direction I wanted to take with my sub brand concept. It took me a couple weeks to fully secure my idea and feel comfortable with what was creating, at first I wanted to go along the menswear route of things with Wales Bonner, however, after changing my parent brand to Macro Jacobs I decided this was more suited for me and to create a sub brand of activewear. When I began working on my macro boards I hadn’t fully grasped the concept of them and how to execute the final product as I hadn’t worked with them before, although after much trial and error I began to understand them clearer. However, I do feel as though I could have done better with them and would approach the task differently next time.
In relation to the editorial aspect I felt most confident on this. I am pleased with my final product of my magazine double page spread mock ups. I carried out multiple shoots and editing experimentation which progressed the skills I already have on this further which I am happy about. As well as this, my social media mock ups I produced I am very pleased with, as I executed them just how I was hoping to. Producing the social media posts and instagram page was something I found enjoyable and again increased my level of skills on photoshop editing.
Creating the event process for my sub brand took me a lot of trial and error. I wasn’t confident on my first ideas so I am glad I changed them towards the end of my sketchbook.
Overall, if completing this project again I would be sure to handle time management better, choose a different concept and take more time to fully understand what Is required of me. I also think more lectures would have helped me with my understanding of this whole project and how to execute it to my full potential.
