When I was in town, I wanted to explore different shops selling sustainable merchandise and learn more about sustainable brands. I came across this pop-up shop that was full of a range of brands, each one selling different items yet all with sustainability at the core of their business. By looking around and doing some in person research, it has allowed me to understand from multiple perspectives why sustainability is so important and creative ways to incorporate it that I hadn’t analyzed before. It also has helped gaining an in person visual representation.
Everything on sale had been ethically sourced or was reused and refurbished into something new. Being able to access visual pieces of art to reflect sustainability is helpful as it can be a ‘out of sight out of mind’ matter in some people’s vision. Personally, I enjoyed gaining more artists perspectives around the topic and how they had fun with creating something to shadow this topic and how we can live sustainably. I found it interesting to see how even when creating art you can make it more environmental in ways I would have not considered beforehand.
