being a doctor in China
Like in all other countries, it varies. You can’t expect an intern earn the same as a 50 something well experienced specialist.
However, in general, Chinese doctors don’t earn as much as doctors in other countries do. My friend works as an intern in hospital now and expecting to be a proper doctor by the end of this year. Her salary now is about 2,000 CNY (about 290 USD) per month. And when she finally becomes a proper doctor, the salary will raise to about 6,000 CNY (about 875 USD) per month includes tax.
A friend of mine works as a paediatrician for nearly 10 years now and his salary is about 15,000 CNY (about 2190 USD) per month includes tax. They do have bonuses annually but that’s only about 2 or 3 month salary at most (at least that’s what they told me).
Both of them work in Beijing where it has the second highest average salary in China.
So, in general, Chinese doctors earn way less than the west.
In China, doctors earn more than other professions. But, there is a phenomenon that surgons have their “gray income”, which is gift money from family members of patients. But this is kind of bribery and corruption.
I like the personal touch to this post. Similar to my last comment, I need to know more about the relative cost of living between the two countries. I’m not disputing that Chinese doctors earn less, but how much does their salary enable them to buy and what kind of life does it enable them to lead? Are doctors salaries significantly higher than other jobs in China?
