1st Shoot – Location

For my first shoot, I wanted to distinguish the contrast of how the clothes would look situated and merged with the outside world. My main focus on this, was to emphasise colours and textures, so that the viewer can comprehend how I occasionally identify things. I found this shoot successful within the styling, but I tried to take some photographs on my film camera but unfortunately the film came out blank, however I did have some on my phone.

‘Monsters’ Styling experiment

Here is a photo series of the clothes I used to style in my editorial shoots. This was an experimental series as I started off taking photos of the outfits laid down but then as I was laying them down, I noticed that they almost portrayed a sort of ‘monster’ element to them. It  was almost like the clothes had their own mind. I kept adding each outfit one by one and ended up with a distorted mis-match of clothes. I felt like this metaphorically portrayed my brain and the colours and textures become abstract.

Styling Inspo collages

Here I have created using Photoshop, some styling inspiration collages. As I am looking at my perception, I wanted to create some looks by using bright colours and textures to portray the craziness of how my brain feels sometimes. As I was also looking at dreamscapes and other worldly themes, I feel like this explores some of the things that you may perceive to not be related to reality. Further, incorporating the connection of nature and the mind.

Still Life Photoshoot ‘Dystopian Dream’

My first shoot, I created a ‘dystopian’ still life scene. By collecting different props such as candles, flowers, a distorted screen and crystals; I placed them all together to see what perception of a story I could create. I also experimented with different coloured lights to change the ambience of the scene. This portrayed a different sense of feeling within the story and some of the objects appeared differently than when I had normal lighting.

Still Life Mood Board

Taking some photo inspiration from Pinterest, I created this Mood Board to help inspire me for my Still Life shoot. I wanted the theme to be spiritual yet slightly dystopian with different hues of colours. Tones such as pink and purple with a vibrance to represent how my brain wants to perceive certain things.

Flowers

Gathering some flowers from Preston Park, I decided to flower press as I was intrigued in how I could represent them in another way. I took some 35mm film photographs of the flowers laid in certain positions. I then drew them with my left hand and a blind drawing. I did this to see how I could remember them with my hand and how my senses and connections from my hand to my brain told me to draw.

35mm Preston Park on film

I decided to take another trip to Preston Park Gardens and use my 35mm camera. I feel that this experimentation was successful, and my film camera has presented these images in a more mystical way. I carried on with taking photographs of what caught my eye and really focused on the detail of each object. This is because I was interested in how I was perceiving things on this day and how certain things were shaped and coloured and how they had changed.

Preston Park

Some of my first initial research was going for a walk around Preston Park Gardens to capture anything that caught my eye. As I went around, I was surprised at how much detail I could see and how intricate every bit of nature was. This inspired me to think about detail, textures and colours within my work. Further on in my work, I have used the flowers to collage as I thought they had interesting patterns and detail.

Dream Diary

In this series of 4 images I have created, I decided to keep a diary of my dreams. This is because I was fascinated with what takes place within the brain when you are sleeping. From these dreams, I then created images in which I thought represented and analysed what had happened in this dream. It is a mix of a hand-drawn picture, Photoshop collage and hand-made collages.
