The sub-brand I have created is called ‘Minimal’ designed for Acne Studios. The name ‘Minimal’ is to do with the simplistic features that Acne Studios shows in their collections of clothes, which is what I wanted to show in my sub-brand. Minimal is about the use of underwear as outerwear and how the structure of texture and clothing comes together to form the body.
I think it’s important for women to feel comfortable within themselves, which is why I chose to create underwear as outerwear because why should a bra or a lace underwear bodysuit have to be hidden underneath your clothes, when they can wear over the top instead. I want to be able to show people that wearing underwear shouldn’t sexualise women, it should be worn with confidence and style. Some of the styles I have chosen are: lacy bodysuits over t-shirts, slips over jumpers, bras over t-shirts; this is to emphasise that it can be a normal thing and that underwear shouldn’t be known as an underneath item of clothing.
I found the connection in my sub-brand to be between texture and structure the most. In some of the shoots outside I chose to have the model standing outside ‘ugly’, ‘old’ buildings to show the contrast that the texture can be seen as beautiful on the outside in front of the structure of an old building. The texture also shows the structure of the item of clothing, as lace is delicate and mesh is a loud statement juxtaposed to create something so gentle that can suggest a net of feelings. I wanted the outcome of the sub-brand to have minimalistic features to focus on the texture of the clothes and not be distracted by anything else. All these connections will bring women together in not being scared of wearing whatever they want. It’s also going against the normal route of wearing underwear underneath your clothing but this sub-brand will show that anything is possible and to not be judgemental.
The collection will consist of bralets, corsets, bodysuits, slip dresses and cami tops. These will come in different textures including mesh, lace and silk. Some of the bralets will already come sewn over the t-shirt but we want the sub-brand to be as open and creative to the public so they can show their own individual style. These outfits can be worn as casual or for evening wear whichever way you style the clothing with other accessories and garments. When buying the clothes, you will get a pair of fishnet tights to style with however you want, adding more texture and structure to your outfit.
Overall, I want ‘Minimal’ to be able to let women express how they feel and be confident in what they’re wearing. I hope that this sub-brand will help them find what they’re looking for in a stylish and simple way.
