INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
WHAT I NEED TO FIND OUT
Do you have any memorable pieces of clothing/accessories? This could be an outfit or a particular look
Any items that you feel more attached to than others?
If you do can you recall any memory of it in particular? As in where you were wearing it, what happened that day, or who you were with?
Do you think that you have a particular style? What would you call it?
If you don’t, Then how do you see yourself?
Do you dress in a way that is meant to convey anything in particular?
Does your clothing represent things that you like?
Tell them how you would sum up their style and personality
Before writing my questions for the interviews, I reflected back on what I had learnt from the museum of transology, the stories that were written on the tags and on the boards detailing how or why these items were special to these people, in some cases they were very simple items such as a hat or a clutch bag and in other cases they were items that had been saved from a major operation as in the gown, the tags and even the breasts that they had had removed. Throughout the link being that each item had held some kind of meaning and memory to them, not only this but they were items that spoke of their journey and were I believe part of their Autobiographical memory, I say this as the original owners had detailed the significance of each item, for instance, in the photograph of the lipstick, ‘’this was my first lipstick’’ the context being that this was their first lipstick that they had bought as a woman.
From visiting this exhibition, my readings on the various types of memory such as Autobiographical memory and nostalgia and from what I have seen of the stories found through ‘’Textale’’. My aim became to try to find out if my interviewees had not only memorable items of clothing which I strongly believe could result in very limited findings, but instead significant memories, relating to themselves and from this discuss in detail if they have any sentimental items of clothing or accessories that also hold memories, good or bad.
