PLAN OF FINAL IMAGES: HOW THESE ARE GOING TO FIT THE BRIEF, DEADLINE SET FOR EACH ONE AND FOR ALL OF THESE?

———————————————————————————————————————————

What will I be test shooting? I shot on film 35 mm, digital and iPhone – I shot in Lacock for the first test shoot as they often go on walks together there. As I am studying their relationship and want to shoot them in an environment that is relevant to their relationship.

In summary to what I have learnt from todays test shoot, I have found that I need much more guidance on the technical side of using the camera, I found this to be quite stressful today in terms of using the camera settings to help me capture the mood and context of my test shoot.

From a direction and framing point of view, I found that I need to consider more carefully how I frame my shot, depending on how I plan to shoot them, looking into this was one of my key aims of the day. I found that shooting them from a fly on the wall style of shooting was sometimes easier to gain a much more natural shot however, having asked them both how they used to feel when they first started dating gave me an insight into how I should shoot a more reconstructed image, I began to shoot with a very shallow depth of field and try to make this a very intimate shot when attempting to reconstruct one of their coffee dates.

Who will I be test shooting?

What will I be hoping to achieve through this research?

These outcomes will inform how I will be able to construct my final images, therefore I need to keep in mind what I am actually focusing on.

I will be looking at the different stages within a romantic relationship, I had originally thought to look at particular stages such as first meeting, realisation of love and also heartbreak.

I have come to the conclusion that this is a good starting point and a good clear thought.

However this research can examine how people behave with each other naturally, but it can also be used as a test for how I wish to reconstruct these stories in a photograph, appose to capturing them naturally.

PROCESS: MUM AND DAD

Their story – Looking at how they are together now, shot in a very natural way – Looking at how they always have been together – Reconstructing this for the editorial

TO DO’S:

Pull out all the old photos of mum and dad these are to be included in the research and to build the picture of their story – Photograph these and email them to myself today

Write up mum and dads story, this can be used for reference when planning the shoots and also be a feature for the sketchbook and blog – Ask both mum and dad about their relationship, decide whether you will need to sit down for more of a interview to talk more in-depth about it all

Talk about their first meeting with each other, how they felt what they thought

Talk about the dating stage, when they first realised that this was love

Talk about the first child, was this planned? How did they feel?

Talk about things that they have been through together, the emotional rollercoasters that they have been on.

The technicalities, try to find the digital camera and set this up, as well as setting up the film camera.

Create a storyboard for the possible reconstructed images – This can be visual or mostly written, just to give options for my shoots

Questions for myself:

What further research do I need to undertake in order to gain a better understanding?

What am I trying to understand in more depth? – I am trying to understand their story on a deeper level, but I am also looking at how they are together naturally, this is to inform how we can reconstruct the day that they first met.

How can I reconstruct that day? – How will I be able to go to the airport and do this?

Do I choose another landmark moment? – First told each other that they loved each other

Do I recreate that day in a different location? – Airfield, near the barracks, in a car

How will this look? Will this image be able to communicate what is actually happening? – Would I have to recreate the scene on the wine being sent over to her, in which case how would this be constructed as they were on the plane at this time.

Will I have them looking at each other in the airport?

Will I have him just looking at her?
