Decay image creation (balaclava)
Below I created balaclava using recycled material, an old jumper, and sewing the fabric together to create something that looks almost like a second skin. My flat mate Elysia let me take photos of her wearing the balaclava.
These are pre edit and have not been narrowed down yet. Using my combined themes of decay and fauna to create an almost Egyptian mummy style head piece. This will be included as one of my pieces for my 6 images.
Zine light and shadow workshop
In this studio workshop we played around with light and shadow. I created an abstract skeleton by ripping paper and then seeing what shadows I could create behind the screen. I enjoyed doing this workshop along with Hans to create images for my zine.
Using the different lights and colours was fun and is something I have not done before.
Illustration inspired by a short story.
Here are some photos both of the process and nearly finished product of a short story called sausage inspired drawing. I have included some rough sketches and more finalised drawings that show a part of the narrative. I experimented digitisation using Procreate which I do not usually use and enjoyed putting colour into my work.I
Image collecting / Experimenting for zine
Below I have included several images collecting using different experiments. Some are refractions of light, others are using liquid and light and just playing around with my phone camera.
These are pre edit and before I have narrowed down my favourites.
I used perfume bottles, shot glasses, tea and lighters.
Decay images/artwork
Here I have some images of the process of creating my images for my theme of decay and fauna. By deconstructing the human body artistically into its barest components and seeing how that would interact with decay. I played around with embroidery and I am continuing to learn how to create images with this new medium for me.
Image collecting for zine
Here I have included a few images I collected over some weeks to include into my zine. Some are experiments with light and liquid whilst others are reflections or things I found visually interesting. Not all will be included in my zine and these are pre edit photos, but I wanted to include some examples of the way I was collecting images.
Exploring decay
As part of our project one of my themes I chose to explore was decay. To do this I took a strawberry and let it decompose to analyse how it decays. Looking at the colours, texture and overall state. This experiment was not enjoyable but interesting nonetheless.
Making shapes and life drawing
In this session we created shapes using paper and placing them on our body. We then drew them quickly in 3 to 5 minute intervals. It was high intensity but really fun practice for drawing what we see. Some are more abstract and intuitive whilst others are more defined.
