I decided to look at the photographer Gabriel Carpes and I looked at his project called ‘We’re happy together’. This project looked at grief, family and happiness. The project was a collection of 10 photographs of his family, which included birthdays and holidays.

I was inspired by his images because there were all images of the home and the family. All of these images are candid images which I do like however, out of all of the images that I looked at from his project the first image presented inspires me the most. This is because it is a photograph of the home (even though there is no people in the image). I want to focus more on landscape photography for my project of a sense of place.

When looking at the first image I think that the lighting used works well for the image. I think that because it uses natural lighting it helps to capture home, a sense of place. The aperture/shutter speed used has helped to capture a image so that everything is in focus and clear (a large depth of field). Originally I wanted to focus on monochrome images because I thought that they portrayed a sense of place more than a coloured image, because it would make the image look timeless. After looking at Carpes’ project I still want to focus on monochrome images because even though I think the coloured images work well and represent a sense of place I do prefer monochromes images.
