In the reading Barthes describes how after his mothers death he was sorting out photographs of her. But, he tells us that even though he knew the images were of his mother he couldn’t recognise her. He also described how the history between them made a difference. Barthes describes how he looked at photographs from when his mother was five years old. He said that as he studied the photograph of the little girl he re-discovered his mother (through the photograph). In the reading he describes his mother through the little girl from her physical features to her personality, through her stance. From Barthes reading I learnt that even though you might see people in photographs you might not recognise them; sometimes you have to look at the photographs in greater depth to recognise the people that you know.
