I came across the photographer Mike Deere who is a multi award winning photographer based in the UK. His photographs are an exploration of architecture creating a sense of place. The use of aperture and depth of field in the images creates stunning images. I think that Deere’s black and white photographs are simply beautiful and endearing because of the composition of light and shade in the images. The black and white images are create a sense of mystery because there obviously no colour so an eerie tone is created. After looking at Deere’s images he uses a lot of low angles which create a sense of power with in the images. The use of low angles also makes the images feel a lot wider, they show a lot more of the background. I do think that low angles in images work very well. The lighting and shadow in the images works well because the lighting highlights the backgrounds to the images and the buildings in the images are in the shadows. This works very well for the composition of the images, and this is because of the use of aperture and depth of field. I will use Deere’s inspiration when taking my own images.
