Part 2 – Brief and FMP Initial Idea

The aim of this part of the module is to explore the potential topic for the Final Major Project, with the outcome being our Statement of Intent. I wanted to carry on the Black culture theme as I find it interesting, but want to veer away from politics and focus on the culture as a whole.

My initial idea for my FMP is to create a magazine brand that explores black cultures and provides a platform of knowledge and inspiration into how different cultures influence different elements of the world around us. Even today, there are many issues that Black people face, especially in Western countries, and so the hope is that this insight into individual cultural identities in a creative and exciting way, will create a positive affect on society.

The magazine fits a niche in the market, as while fashion magazines broadly touch on different cultures, and travel magazines introduce the basics relating to tourism, the industry is lacking a magazine that explores cultures in more depth and breadth. Each issue will focus on a different culture/country/group of countries, and their individual personalities and influences.

With that in mind, I have chosen to focus on Creole culture for this project (countries such as Seychelles, Mauritius, Haiti, etc), and so this will be my focus for research.
