Black Panther Party

Diving into further historical research brought me to the Black Panther Party. The revolutionary black nationalist and socialist party was founded in October 1966. Their aim was to challenge police brutality by having armed citizens patrol police officers. They also created community programs, such as the Free Breakfast for Children and community health centres, which they are unfortunately less known for. The history of the party is controversial with some saying they are the most influential black movement of the 1960s, whilst others think the party is more criminal than political.
