Artists inspired by Black Lives Matter
My next body of research investigated artists and designers who have been influenced by Black Lives Matter. This includes:
- Titus Kaphar – used chalk to sketch the faces of police brutality victims, overlaying them to represent the present day and historical nature of police brutality
- Adam Pendleton – explores relationship between politics and race through painting, graphics, installation and video art
- Katie Wohl – graphic designer who created tops with quotes on from black female writers and puts them in the portraits of black men and women
- Jordan Casteel – her ‘Visible ‘Man series are paintings on nude black men in a location they feel safe, using unrealistic colours, with the aim to address their vulnerability
