Black Lives Matter

Following on from the Soul of Nation, I decided to carry on with the same theme but think about its modern equivalent. Black Lives Matter is an international activist movement, originating from the African-American community, who campaign against violence and racism towards black people. Protests against police killings, racial profiling, police brutality, racial inequality are held regularly across the world.

The movement began in 2013 with the famous hashtag #blacklivesmatter, following the death of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman, the policeman who fatally shot him.
