Fixing the keel to the hull was quite straight forward which involved a bit of precision and careful use of pressure struts. Working away threw up thoughts of longevity and how long this boat would survive in sea water. Everything is held together with glue rather than the old mechanical fixing systems (staples, rivets, joints) It feels like a move away from one technology to another without a noticeable visual difference – unlike the change in telephone design for example. I am sure there would be a reference point here to current design theory but John and I marvel at the considered way each piece of wood is joined with glue in a sequence that helps to hold the structure together. We have not added a single piece of metal to the boats construction yet.
