24th November saw the beginning of the mould construction which will allow us to position the wood strips or strakes that form the hull of the boat. The large moulds need to be aligned carefully and are brilliantly shaped to accept the curving pieces of timber. At the same time, I have machined up pieces of oak to form the keelson. They will need splicing together to make the long length required. I am really enjoying this preparation stage and we found ourselves stopping to discuss whether we could foresee problems in advance. It is a highly contemplative process.
