3D Design: Software

  • I created my object from a basic cube, which I created from the ‘create, box’ tool and then from an extrusion of a 2D sketch, which allowed me to control the aesthetic more.
  • I then used the pattern tool to create a circle out of the cubes.

  • However this was not as accurate as I would have hoped, so I created a cylinder first to use as my axis point. I then patterend the cubes around, minimizing the distance between them so that it overlapped slightly in an attractive design.
  • Next I deleted the cylinder and combined the circle of cubes.
  • I then played with the tools to see if I could create a more complex 3D object. I used the mirror tool and pattern tool to play around with the combined circular shape, which resulted in an exciting effect!
  • However, after converting the file and opening it with fusion, this object prooved to complicated to print and would need a lot of support so I stuck with the original circular shape.

  • I was very pleased with the final printed outcome, as it was quick to print and did not need support. It also seemed a great fit for a hoop earring design in the future!
