Cropping

Using both found and primary imagery, I created images to experiment with the art of cropping. I specifically looked at experimenting with both colour and geometric shapes, as well as use raw marks in photoshop. Above are the pieces of work I produced, labelled underneath with the focus of the imagery used.

Explain Why -Medication Development

Research showed that laughter proved to be contagious. Therefore, this alluded to the idea of multiples for visuals to explain why laughter is the best medicine. For example, I thought to include to multiple smiley laughing faces on the packaging, and hopefully, simultaneously this would spur the viewer to laugh too. I therefore created […]

Explain Why – Medical Exploration

I started to develop initial design ideas, satirising why laughter is the best medicine. I played upon the idea of slapstick being the best cause of laughter, by experimenting with creating a bright and garish clown like medical box. It could perhaps include a leaflet explaining the researched statistics proving laughter as being the […]

Explain Why – Explain the Explained

Initial Concept Development: I decided to explore the quote ‘Laughter is the best Medicine’. The quote itself almost seems laughable, due to its mundane nature and melodramatic and biased use of the description of it being the ‘best’. Therefore, initially the idea of creating a kitsch and ironic 1950’s advert came to my mind, due […]

It also included a pineapple to further evoke the message of how sustainable and resourceful we can be, by creating fabrics out of its fibres. The design is literally ‘Samish’ to further emphasise […]

SAMISH – zine

Online SAMISH zine I printed the zine onto recycled newspaper, so that it followed the sustainability theme. Furthermore, it is cheap to produce, meaning the message can be spread. It also added an artisan feel associated with the Congo Sapeurs.

SAMISH- Gold

I decided to use the colour Gold as a backdrop, due to its reference to religious iconography associated with both Congo Sapeur and Amish subcultures. It also evoked the bright and happy mood of the Congo Sapurs. I also reused the fabrics above involved in both the styling and illustration development.

SAMISH- Illustrative development

Playing around with different medias and textures, reusing fabric to create the editorial works like the congo sapeurs. I also used a pop art style to suggest anti-consumerist values like Pop Art. I decided to create an abstract aesthetic due to the artistic value needed to be sustainable. One way of doing the […]
