“How I became a top 25 nominee in the 10,000 Black Interns Awards while studying Contemporary History”

Student Lucille has been recognised in a major prizegiving ceremony at the Emirates Stadium in London. Here she tells us about the award.

“On 23 January 2024, I was honoured to attend the 10,000 Black Interns Alexandar Paul Awards at the Diamond Club in the Emirates Stadium. Being recognised as part of the top 25 nominees was amazing beyond measure. My highlight was being able to attend such a momentous event celebrating this achievement with all interns and having University’s of Brighton Apprenticeship Team support.

“I applied for a summer internship 2023 through the 10,000 Black Interns foundation organisation website. This organisation works to help Black and Mixed heritage students and graduate secure internship opportunities in different work sectors across the UK. These work sectors include education, culture, law, and media. I was mostly interested in working in the field of education. Following this, I was offered the opportunity to work at the University of Brighton as an education intern for six weeks, placed in the apprenticeship department hub.

“One of my main projects was creating educational resources for the apprentices to help them learn and test themselves on key topics and information related to their course. I created multiple educational resources such as a digital podcast, PowerPoints, and an interactive quiz. This was all done to give students a range of different modes of learning that could suit them. Creating these different educational resources allowed me to challenge my voice, experiment with different digital tools, editing software and applications. From this experience, I was able to become more a confident communicator and strong user of digital technologies.”

Huge congratulations to Lucille!
