Business of apps has found that in 2018 Twitter had 336 million users.
According to Statista this fell to 330 million in 2019.
This shows a small decline in user base relative to its size and so Twitter continues to remain one of the most popular social media platforms.
Do I use it ?
I have a Twitter account but I do not engage with the platform or its users. I do not find it as appealing as others and this likely comes down to the fact not many of my friends or family use the platform.
Twitters important assets
In terms of a business and for consumers:
- Hashtags allow the linking of related topics and interests promoting ease of use.
- Twitter itself has access to wide user data to build profiles for targeted advertising.
- The user interface is extremely simplified and allows new users to get started fast.
- Twitter has incorporated similar mediums on its platform that others have shown to be successful.
- Powerful medium for news, pictures and videos.
Monetisation
Twitter has immense advertising capabilities with the social data provided not limited to location or gender etc, but also interests based off of follows likes and engagement.
