Daphne Eviatar

Daphne Eviatar directs Amnesty International USA’s Security with Human Rights Program, which advocates for US national security policy and practice to comply with international human rights law and the laws of war, where applicable. Daphne was previously Senior Counsel at Human Rights First, and has attended and reported on military commission proceedings at Guantanamo and written widely about the human rights abuses that have occurred and continue there.

Amnesty International has advocated for the closure of Guantanamo Bay since shortly after the detention center was opened in 2002. In September, Amnesty delivered a petition to President Biden with more than 300,000 signatures urging him to close Guantanamo. Amnesty International’s most recent report on the subject, Right the Wrong: Decision Time on Guantanamo, can be found here: https://www.amnestyusa.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/USA_-Right-the-Wrong_Decision-Time-on-Guantananmo.pdf
