Material

The parts of MY WALL will be made from ABS as mentioned in the BOM. ABS has been selected for production as it has a low melting temperature and is also an inexpensive material.

ABS is one of the most commonly used materials in injection moulding, it stands for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene. ABS is a thermoplastic material and is known for its high impact resistance and toughness. It also has good resistance to scratching and rigidity with an excellent dimensional stability, this will mean that it will be knock proof and provides resistance to light damage caused by the user.

Benefits of injection moulding are the low cost, it is platable and paintable although I will not make use of these qualities. It provides high strength and rigidity for the finished product and considering its weight, has a high strength to weight ratio.

Velcro 3m will be used for the pads on the end of the pins. This material is perfect for attaching badges to the flat face of the pin, so they will stay firmly connected but are able to be easily removed upon the users choice.

Production

The product when in production would made on a jig, fixture pins and toggle clamps will keep the individual parts located at each stage of the assembly.

The back plate will be stuck to the main casing of the MY WALL using glue, the rest of the product will also be glued together using a non drip thixotropic solvent cement. This reacts on contact with the plastic surface and will bond instantly and will be extremely strong.
