In this blog post, I have documented the final 4 sponsors (Saf Life, Corinne Taylor, Philosophy and Yoga Haven) in the form of their advertisements. Originally, we chose Vita coco, Lush and Yoga Haven, however as some thought, I didn’t feel happy with these choices, partly because the aesthetics of the chosen brands didn’t fit successfully with the overall appearance on the magazine. After some research, I found 3 new brands to accompany the existing one – yoga haven. I felt they had less of a commercialised feel about them and they all have some in common which is a natural and honest feel about them. I feel this is partly because they aren’t particularly well recognised and have a personal and independent feel about the brand. Saf life focuses on snacks which are vegan, organic, gluten free and raw. I felt this worked well with peeled as we have a focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle through diet as well as exercise and other areas. Additionally, the recipes which we created were healthy, honest and using nutritious and health benefiting ingredients. Yoga haven was an important choice as alongside diet, peeled aims to promote a healthy, holistic wellbeing through the encouragement of meditation and yoga. With this in mind, peeled’s pre-launch event is based on a yoga morning with a healthy focus, including relaxing music and a juice and smoothie bar. Furthermore, Corinne Taylor was a great choice as she is a holistic therapist who sells her own aromatherapy products which are all natural, using the finest organic ingredients and even better…chemical free! With this in mind, i felt this brand was a good choice as peeled has a focus on healthy living not only through diet and exercise but beauty too. In other words, we chose to look at companies like bare minerals, lush and Corinne Taylor who are anti animal testing and use natural ingredients. We felt minting this natural feel all around from the brands, content to even as far as the aesthetics of the magazine like the tactility of the paper. Finally, this leads me onto the final brand – Philosophy. This brand focuses on encouraging women to feel uplifted and look after themselves. I felt this also fitted nicely with the focus of peeled which encourages our reader to take a step back in life, look afar one self, view life holistically and have a positive attitude, inspired by the up and coming danish term – Hygge. This leads me onto the creation of the ads themselves. I have created all 4 using my own imagery. I didn’t want to use the existing imagery form the brands as I felt it wouldn’t have the same slow and authenticity than if i did it myself. I felt it was also a great opportunity to get some of my illustration across because our magazine is quite photography and text heavy. Additionally, having illustrations in ads was also something I felt was different as you don’t tend to see it that often.
