To begin my primary research, I decided to take a visit to see the ‘Fashion cities Africa’ exhibition at the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery before taking a trip to see 3 more exhibitions in London. I felt it was wrong not to…considering it is on our doorstep! Despite the small space, the exhibition successfully captured contemporary african fashion through its layout and additional design features. It was so fascinating to see the way the designers created such contemporary and fun garments, whilst maintaining an element of their culture. Additionally, the exhibition was varied which was visually pleasing for the viewer. For instance, the garments were diverse and original, differing from each other and showing the different cities culture. Furthermore, the pop up dress both and information boards also helped to achieve this. Despite this exhibition not having much relevance to my current project, I still feel that I could take a essence of inspiration from this whilst also finding it useful for further projects.
