Here are a few photographs which I took recently whilst visiting the scallop sculpture on Aldeburgh beach. In 2003, the sculpture was conceived by suffolk artist Maggi Hambling as a tribute to composer Benjamin Britten who spent much of his life in Aldeburgh and Snape. The sculpture is located the North of Aldeburgh between the coastline of Aldeburgh and Thorpness. The striking 4 metre high sculpture is made of steel and contains the phrase “I hear those voices that will not be drowned.” This is a line from the song ‘Four Sea Interludes’ in the opera ‘Peter Grimes’ by Britten.

I chose to research the scallop as it is something which is close to me both physically and mentally, I live in suffolk, on the east coast so I often visit Snape and Aldeburgh. Music is a great passion of mine as well as art so finding something that combines them is wonderful.
