I decided to go to Stanmer Park and see how many different sorts of fungi I could notice. Details always catch my eye so I spotted quite a few different sorts as well as the Bracket Fungus I was looking for specifically. The whole of the wood seemed to be hovering on the brink of autumn as it was the first day with a chill in the air since a long hot spell and the air felt damp and close, smelling loamy.
This one seemed to adorn the surface of the branches like jewels or a sort of natural glitter. The pink stood out against the muted green and gray of the beech bark.
These were reaching from the base of a dead stump in clumps like unusually formed little fingers.
Everywhere there was evidence of the mycelial kingdom taking hold, building its life from the unwitting trees.
