Movement in Styling

Using pieces of chiffon fabric, one black and one white, I wanted to experiment with how fabrics can be used in movement to create interesting shapes for photography. I used a digital camera and prioritised a fast shutter speed to capture the model moving with the fabric, and incorporating ideas of dance to create certain shapes, as well as the natural movement of the fabric when thrown above the model, and how it fell around her. As the light coming into the studio changed, I found that it created almost a spotlight, that then became more unusual as the sun through the window was blocked in places due to objects in the way, causing shapes on the white wall behind where we were shooting. This had a really interesting effect when the model and the fabrics were placed within this light, in particular the white fabric that appeared to shimmer in this light. A natural progression appeared to then experiment with shadows and the fabrics which caused unusual shadows and compositions. Although to recreate this would be difficult as the lighting isn’t likely to be the same.
