Showcasing Charity Shop Pieces

The first poster I created was of a t-shirt that I found in the Red Cross charity shop, on London road in Brighton. I have had this t-shirt a couple off years and it’s very good quality and has a nice vintage design to it. The first thing that really caught my eye when I was really looking at this t-shirt was there label. It read ‘wah wah’ in an interesting repetitive line font. I researched ‘wah wah’ and discovered that this was an onomatopoeic word for something that is associated with electronic music. I really liked the design of the label and thought it would look really interesting as a background. I played around with layout and mirroring until I reached a place where I was happy. For this poster I wanted to research into the brand/company Guitari. I found that Guitari is a small musical electronics company that was founded in Philadelphia. It sells electronic musical instruments and tools for electronic music editing. I started researching a little into Philadelphia to try and think how I can best represent this part of the T-shirt’s origin. One of the things that Philadelphia is best known for is Philly cheesesteaks. These are basically a steak roll with cheese. I did some research into the best place to get one of these in Philly- several articles and forums all pointed me to the same place- Jim’s Its on this website I found a picture of a glorious cheesesteak the I was just drawn to. The sandwich ended up fitting perfectly with the t-shirt just like a head. I then began to play around with colour ways, and after doing a little more research I found out that Philadelphia’s colours are yellow and blue which just tied everything in together so well. I’m really happy with how this turned out it think its a perfect homage to the t-shirts heritage, and it definitely feels on brand to me.
