Refined Concept

Introducing PORTAL and inter-generational community through fashion.

Updating you from my last concern, we’ve decided to use fashion as our vehicle for conversation whilst we interview people for the content of this magazine- this gives us that strong core for every issue that we were lacking before.

The idea is that the magazine is for the people therefore the content we have will be made from the people by letting them lead conversations from our starting point. Everyone has got something interesting to say/ that they do or know and our magazine is going to represent that.

Using fashion as our starting point we will explore similarities between the generations of trends and repetitions, based on what they say or story they tell or item of clothing they describe we will curate it into either an interview script, article, illustration or photo collage. We also want to include a community artists page which showcases all the upcoming young/older artist’s work in the area of Brighton.

VISUAL PROMOTION FILM STYLE INSPIRATION

*NOTE TO SELF* The video content and style of edit really like, It’s visually effective and leaves you feeling calm with the background music, I like how mismatch and random it is, remember this idea of using small clips to combine for a finished film piece in the future for our magazine.

Evolving Concept

I love the direction our project is going in for the editorial. So far we have swayed from the over-listened COVID conversations and moved more towards looking at a magazine inclusive to all the ages. (As this is something we have identified to be lacking within the market but also linking loosely to COVID which we feel has maybe divided the generations as to ‘whose to blame’ our magazine could be used to bring a sense of community back) We’re just currently trying to narrow down how we can make that work and how we can refine it to have a strong core which is consistent throughout all the ‘issues’ as if we were to continue making more.

Initial Editorial Brief Response

I’m joining fairly late with this initial editorial brief response as I feel since moving back to Brighton and getting back into the swing of Uni there’s been a lot to catch up on and I haven’t had the chance to fully sit down and process my thoughts.

The first briefing on Teams was slightly overwhelming, It’s been a while since I’ve been in any form of routine let alone a 10-4 day. Initially, the brief excited me the whole concept of creating your own magazine and designing the layout was right up my street but the first stages of developing an idea and theme within your designated group I found hard- not because I didn’t love everyone in my group but because I didn’t love or feel excited about our earliest concept theme ideas.

Since then we’ve diverted from our first thoughts of a COVID magazine (thank god) and its diverted to more of a platform to air current conflicts and affairs in the world whilst also promoting local art culture.

*Disclaimer- this year I want to try and be really active on my blog, though I started a bit delayed I intend to keep this up*
