1930S BEAUTY GADGETS – DIMPLE MAKER USING EARPHONES

Creating more 1930s gadgets using everyday modern objects. For this edit I used earphones to replicate the 1930s ‘dimple maker’. In this era women would use this device to imprint dimples into the skin by having it tightly fitted to the cheeks. For this shoot I thought the shape of the earphones would be perfect for making this device as they can almost form any shape. To really get the proper outcome I darkened where the earphones attach to the face to make a tight imprint into the cheek. I have been interested in the concept of making every image unnerving and obscure and have a theme throughout this particular set of images where I distort the eyes. I deliberately edit my images to look old fashioned with a dark tone on photoshop to recreate the 1930s photography style. This is one of my favourite images with the model facing the camera as it feels as though she is looking straight at the viewer. I used a similar editing process to my other images by using the ‘blur’ tool on photoshop to smooth out areas and the ‘burn’ tool to darken areas specifically around the eyes.
