Juergen Teller

Teller has earned himself a spot in the top fashion photographers of the 21st century for his artistic approach to photography and ability to create such a strong sense of reality through his work. His style is awkward and his photographs can often be said to make the viewer feel uncomfortable for his vulnerable model, however he manages to produce something so real about his subject that no other photographer seems to understand.

He is known for his contribution to both the commercial world of photography and fine art. All of his work starts from a single concept that he explores before creating a final destination and message for his viewers. Often he appears in the work himself, connecting the photography and visual elements and making the process more personal. In ways, I believe this process allows his subject to feel more comfortable and open up more infant of the camera. Much of his work is stark and raw;  An import aspect to his photography is that he is making art, creating something unheard of and seeing a knew side of his subjects that they do not often show.

“I think my strength is to act instinctively, really quickly, on what I believe, what I see in this person. A proper portrait. I wouldn’t dream of doing something inappropriate for that person. I guess I make the person comfortable around me.”- Dazed digitals Q&A with Juergen Teller
