Photoshoot Conclusions

When I compare Tom Ford and Juergen Teller, I see that both very much focus on sexualising there subjects, femininity as a theme,  projecting there individual personality into here work, often use touch weather the model touches themselves or by others, colour is used boldly and they both display there own individual form of reality.

From these conclusions, I have decided to create a theme for my photoshoot tomorrow around women and reality. Through Tom Fords portal of a beautiful glamorous woman I want to coincide this with Tellers raw provocative take on females in photography as my own way of expressing femininity through photography. I want to explore two iconic means of visual expression to create my own story of the collision of beauty and reality.

Juergen Teller

Teller has earned himself a spot in the top fashion photographers of the 21st century for his artistic approach to photography and ability to create such a strong sense of reality through his work. His style is awkward and his photographs can often be said to make the viewer feel uncomfortable for his vulnerable model, however he manages to produce something so real about his subject that no other photographer seems to understand.

He is known for his contribution to both the commercial world of photography and fine art. All of his work starts from a single concept that he explores before creating a final destination and message for his viewers. Often he appears in the work himself, connecting the photography and visual elements and making the process more personal. In ways, I believe this process allows his subject to feel more comfortable and open up more infant of the camera. Much of his work is stark and raw;  An import aspect to his photography is that he is making art, creating something unheard of and seeing a knew side of his subjects that they do not often show.

“I think my strength is to act instinctively, really quickly, on what I believe, what I see in this person. A proper portrait. I wouldn’t dream of doing something inappropriate for that person. I guess I make the person comfortable around me.”- Dazed digitals Q&A with Juergen Teller

Tom Ford @ Gucci

IN 1990, Tom Ford appeared on the scene at Gucci as a women’s ready to wear designer. During the next few years, the brand came close to collapse as it was unable to keep up with current fashion.

Ford was promoted to brand’s creative director by rising new chief executive Domenico de Sole, and given the final opportunity to rescue the company. Over the next year, he abandoned the old brand aesthetics and made it his own; he turned a corner in fashion and created a unique look significant to the brand that was sexy, glamorous and powerful. He used a new range of models such as Kate Moss and Amber Valetta who would bring natural sex appeal into the concept of the clothing, and the low cut silk shirts and velvet low rise trousers that flattered any female.

By 1999, the designer had made Gucci worth $4.3 billion (£2.2), making it one of the largest and most profitable luxury brands in the world, before going on to purchase Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga.

After dispute with the companies leaders, Ford announced he would be leaving the brand in 2003 when he took a short break from fashion before making a come back to the industry with his own label.

Although the designer left the brand under negative circumstances, his reputation to the company and the memorable things he did for fashion history will never be forgotten.
