Body image in the Media

Today we were introduced to our project that was to create a zine based on the theme “Body Image in the Media”. Within this theme, we were asked to come up with a sub theme. I thought about the media and different aspects of it, from film, television, social media, the news. etc. The media is such a big platform that body image is represented through out, negatively and positively. With film, my brief ideas spun from negative representation with the male gaze, to positive raw representations in independent films. When I thought about television, I thought about the reality shows and how there’s a pressure and expectation to look like reality stars despite how fake bodies are. My last thoughts came to the news and how magazines put pressure on celebrities to always look perfect.
