Narrative co-constructions: methodology and pedagogy

Mark Price PhotoThis seminar focuses on co-constructed narrative inquiry and implications for research and teaching in higher education. When interviewing participants in narrative studies, the researcher’s intent, position, role and interventions adopted are key. In such contexts, the researcher reveals and utilises their own narrative capital as a resource in the research process. The resulting process and products of this collaborative research are hence located within and arise from a co-constructed, relational landscape. The seminar explores and maps this co-constructed landscape and considers implications for research methodologies and for teaching which seeks to support critical reflective practice and professional development.

Mark has worked as a playworker, teacher, youth worker and counsellor/psychotherapist before joining the University of Brighton as a member of the work-based learning and professional development team. His research interests lie in reflective practice, professional identity, inter-professionality and narrative inquiry. He recently obtained his doctorate for research entitled ‘Narrative capital and youth practitioner professional identities in the UK’ which he is now preparing for publication.
