The Education Research Centre and School of Education invite you to attend:
What’s wrong with education policy research? Seven fallacies
Stephen Ball
Institute of Education
Education policy is changing but educational research is not, or at least not in ways that enable a critical engagement with recent policy developments. How policy is done, where and by whom have all changed in the last 15 years and accordingly as researchers and teachers we need to change how we think about and engage with policy. The presentation will explore seven fallacies that are embedded in much current research, drawing on Stephen Ball’s own research and that of other policy sociologists.
Stephen Ball is Karl Mannheim Professor of Sociology of Education at the Institute of Education, University of London and editor of the Journal of Education Policy. He has written extensively on education policy and social class. Recent publications include Global Education Inc: New Policy Networks and the Neoliberal Imaginary (2012) , The Education Debate: Policy and Politics in the Twenty-first Century (2013) and Education, Justice and Democracy (2013, downloadable from http://classonline.org.uk/pubs/item/education-justice-and-democracy)
