Falmer campus Family Fun Day 2018

On Saturday 11 March the fourth Family Fun Day took place on the Falmer campus.

This annual event is for all parents who study at Falmer and was attended by students studying education, humanities, health science and social science degrees with the invite extended to their children and partners. University staff members and their children were also invited.

The event provided an opportunity for student parents to relax and network with their peers; parents of young children can often feel isolated whilst studying. It also enabled their family to visit the university and find out where mum or dad spends some of their time!

The event was run in collaboration by the Falmer-based Student Support & Guidance Tutors and was funded by the university’s student services and widening participation teams.

The day was packed full of activities for the children including a bouncy slide, inflatable play, circus free play, face painting, Lego architecture, robot wars and a visit from Reptylers. The Open Learning Centre was also open for reading and quieter play. For the students there was neck and shoulder massage and hand massage.

Mel Gill, who is a Student Support and Guidance Tutor at the School of Education alongside Steve Ager, said: “The Family Fun Day is always an exciting event in our calendar.

“It is always great to spend time with our students in a social situation.”

Around 180 adults and children attended the day and great fun was had by all!
