Geography PGCE enhancement and enrichment activities

Trainee teachers studying on the (Secondary) Geography PGCE recently took part in a day of enhancement and enrichment activities with year 9 and 10 pupils from local partnership schools.

Using GCSE specs, trainees were tasked with designing a geography investigation using the local area to support schools to deliver geographical content and skills. Trainees worked with pupils who find the classroom environment more challenging and would benefit from outdoor learning.

These activities allow trainees’ teachers to understand the value of outdoor learning, as well as provide an opportunity to organise a field trip and to link theory to practice.

The day also helped to support school pupils in developing their geographical knowledge, interpretation and analysis skills as well as prepare them for the GCSE field work paper. It’s also an opportunity to have a taster of university life.
