Education Studies Employability Day
Now in its fifth year, the School of Education will host its Employability day on 13 February 2018.
The annual event, usually held for students in their second year studying Education BA(Hons), has also this year been opened to students in their final year of the Early Childhood Education and Care BA(Hons) course.
Taking place prior to Education BA students embarking on their eight-week placement, the employability programme helps students to prepare for employment, supporting them to build skills and knowledge required to succeed in applying for jobs and building their career.
Throughout the day students will be able to attend presentations and workshops that will explore areas such as:
- How to optimise opportunities of employability though their work placement experience
- Understanding the correlations between job specification and job application content
- Exploring skills to enhance application success
- Understanding competencies employers look for and how they select
There will also an opportunity to hear from final year students and alumni about their experiences and challenges faced in securing employment.
Each year guest speakers also attend to talk about the wide range of roles and careers in education, and this year includes:
- Kate McAllister and Darren Abrahams, Co-Founders of Crisis Classroom
- a deputy manager from a local nursery
- a head teacher from a SEN school
- a representative from NCS Challenge
- the owner of a nursery and forest school
Work placements and a focus on employability is a vital part of our education courses and this event highlights the level of support students can expect from our dedicated team here at the University of Brighton.
