Celebrating our partnership in Mauritius
The University of Brighton prides itself on its international partnerships and the School of Education is celebrating the 17th cohort of students who are undertaking the Education MA in partnership with the Mauritius Institute of Education (MIE).
Founded in 1973, the MIE is an institution devoted to teacher education, curriculum development and research, working closely with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources to drive a number of educational projects and to be at the forefront of curriculum change and innovation in the pre-primary, primary and secondary sectors of education in the Republic of Mauritius.
This collaborative programme has produced over 230 graduates to date. All students benefit from the opportunity to engage in postgraduate study in their own context and many have achieved promotion or progressed to doctoral level study.
The success of the programme is founded in the strong relationship between the two institutions and we are proud of the number of colleagues at Brighton and at the MIE whose own higher education practice, both in teaching and research, has gained in strength through experience in the partnership.

During her last visit to Mauritius, our assistant Head of School, Irena Andrews, had the privilege of receiving a copy of ‘Continuity, Complexity and Change’ which was presented by Dr. Oomandra Nath Varma, the Director of MIE.
The book, which has been written by MIE lecturers, Hyleen Mariaye and Michael Samuel, charts the foundation and developments of MIE since 1973 to the present date through narratives and analysis offered through the professional lives of teacher-educators who have contributed to MIE over the years. The School of Education, University of Brighton partnership and contribution is included in this book.
