Lucie Bourne has had a busy summer writing a grant, preparing scientific papers and supporting students on work experience. She’s also spent time in the lab doing some histology – staining tissue samples with special dyes to look at it’s organisation. This colourful image shows a slice through a tibia (shin bone) stained red with Safranin O (highlighting the growth plate cartilage) and Fast Green (the turquoise colour showing bone and muscle), whilst the dark blue colour indicates the bone marrow. It’s quite fun ‘ti-bi-a’ bone biologist!
