Welcome to news and updates for our UoB ECR community
With November upon us, I have collected and collated information that might be of interest and relevance to you. Please see the following details regarding research-related events, training and development opportunities:
Events
- The Inaugural Lecture Series is starting again! Every year the University hosts inaugural lectures throughout the academic year. These events are free, open to staff, students and the public and are the first lecture delivered by a newly-appointed professor at the University of Brighton. See details here: Inaugural lectures
- First one up by Professor Melanie Flint on the 4th of December focuses on the hidden link between stress and cancer. It is almost fully booked, so secure your place now to avoid disappointment.
Training
- Save the dates for the University-wide Research and Knowledge Exchange Week (31 March- 3 April 2025).
- In addition, the School of Art and Media’s Research and Knowledge Exchange Week takes place right now (11-15 November 2024). Some highlights include:

- Workshops and training with the Research Office can be arranged on request for small groups. Do visit the Workshops and Training SharePoint page to find out more about finding the right workshop for you and how to organise a session.
Development
- While many calls for internal Research and Knowledge Exchange Initiatives opportunities are now closed, do check the Sharepoint-Page to see if there are any open internal funding calls that are appropriate for you.
- The Bid Builder Programme is now open for applications until Friday 29 November. Bid Builder provides structured support to help colleagues develop skills for securing external research grant funding through effective bid writing. The programme is most suitable for Early and Mid-Career researchers. For application guidance, the programme outline, and the application form, please visit the Bid Builder SharePoint page. As a participant in the Bid Builder Programme last year, I can highly recommend the training. It is well-structured and supports researchers in their personalised ambitions regarding bid writing.
Please get in touch with any interests, comments or information to be shared with the wider community of ECRs around the University. I wish you all the best working towards the end of the year.
All the best,
Barbara
