WEEK 9 – SMALL SET DESIGN AND LIGHT EXPERIMENTATION

In order for me to get an idea of how I can create a set based of light manipulation and following the suns natural movement I created a little set comprised of 3D structures which I know would created solid shadows. I made this out of card and decided to keep it all white in order to focus on the shadows in their pure state. I began by using light to project across and around the set as if the sun was rising and falling throughout the day.

I LOVE the outcome. It has really helped me envision how a large scale set could look using proper studio lighting and colour. I know another one of my sets is based upon colour, however I wanted to use colour light to see how it transforms the whole space and which colours I favourited, which I believe to be the electric blue and the deep pink. They look strongest within a space

I then wanted to add cut out little models into these to get an idea of how a presence there than a built structure interacts with the colour and light. I found although the outcome isn’t completely Chrystal clear picture quality I really like to effect of the stream of light falling upon their face. Bringing them to the forefront of the image

Here I did the same test as earlier, recreating the suns natural movement within the set, this time using the reflective card within the space. I think this is one of he more successful tests using these sets, by adding another aspect it lifts the aesthetic of the image completely. Through my research it was said that by adding water to a space this can lift our moods as we feel closer to the earth and its natural elements. However it was suggested if you are not able to create a pool of water in your space mirror have the same effect, so perhaps this is what is happening here.
