The winners of the CILIP Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Medals were announced this morning. Interestingly, both winning titles were written in verse.
The Poet X is the debut novel by Dominican-American author and slam poetry champion Elizabeth Acevedo. It explores themes of identity, freedom, first love and finding your own voice.
Jackie Morris earns her first CILIP Kate Greenaway win with The Lost Words, a ‘book of spells’ that seeks to conjure back the near-lost magic and strangeness of the nature that surrounds us.
Children throughout the country voted for the Shadowers’ Choice Award and their results matched those of the Carnegie and Kate Greenaway judging panel.
