The Klaus Flugge shortlist was announced this week. Set up to honour Klaus Flugge, founder of Andersen Press, this award is for the most promising and exciting newcomer to children’s picture book illustration.
Kate Read’s thriller is a one-to-ten counting book with a twist in the tail. The poor fox starts off famished and ends up frightened, but, thankfully, ‘no hens or foxes were harmed in the making of this book’. The beautiful illustrations are digitally created using a mixture of collage and monoprint in warm, glowing colours.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. There is concern about how the well-being of children (and adults) will be impacted by the current pandemic, the worry, and the constraints of physical distancing.
Eva Eland talks about sadness and ways to deal with it.
The winner will be revealed on Wednesday 16th September 2020 and will receive a cheque for £5,000.
Some excellent texts. I love this publisher, Klaus has always had a great eye and intellect for picture fiction.
