Big data are everywhere, and they are transforming the way we live.
But what kinds of skills are needed in order to make sense of these data? What do community organisations need to know if they want to communicate in an engaging way? How can data become relevant and accessible for the social good? And how can these skills help them address the critical and ethical questions that relate to data?
Critical Data Literacy is the home of a Rising Stars funded research that explored these questions through engagement with civil society (2017-18). It seeks to identify the necessary skills that will help citizens analyse, interpret data and tell stories that empower their communities.
