On Wednesday 2nd April as part of the University of Brighton’s Research and Knowledge Exchange Week, there are various talks, workshops and networking events taking place on Moulsecoomb Campus.

There is an informal networking lunch for members of COREs and REGs from 12:30 – 2pm in Cockcroft Hall (G50)

In Mithras House G3, from 2pm to 2.45pm, Dr. Muna Al-Jawad will be running a workshop called “We Are the Keynote Speakers”.

This playful and creative session invites researchers from any discipline to step into the spotlight. In pairs, participants will take turns delivering impromptu keynote speeches – these can be on their research or something entirely different, such as a hobby or personal interest. While one speaks, the other will sketch a portrait of them. The session introduces the concept of cartooning as a response to conferences and provides a light-hearted way to reflect on research and communication. No prior drawing experience is necessary! The aim is to encourage new ways of thinking, listening, and expressing ideas.

Then, in the same location, from 2.45 to 3.30pm, Alex Fitch will be hosting a panel with Ottilie Hainsworth and Annebella Pollen about their research in the field of comics and graphic novels.

Ottilie will be talking about combining and making images/drawings and writing/generating ideas in her teaching to create a sort of “whole body” experience, which is different than an “in your head” experience; Bella will be talking about her research into the depiction of Cameras in Comics – how British and American characters promoted camera use on the page from the 1940s to 1980.

This event is open to all, so please drop in on the day!

The following day: book your spot at the R&KE Showcase at City Campus on Thursday April 3rd from 3-6pm. The event features short, lightning-style presentations from our talented staff and postgraduate researchers and will showcase fascinating research and knowledge exchange projects.
