Welcome to the BSc Professional Practice Degree page. If you are a Healthcare professional and interested in completing your degree you have come to the right place. The BSc Professional Practice Degree is a part-time course is for health and social care professionals who do not yet have a BSc (Hons) degree and would like to take Level 6 modules on a flexible course that offers non-clinical and/or clinical modules. The course provides an opportunity to ‘top-up’ a previously completed Level 5 diploma or foundation degree to achieve a BSc (Hons) Professional Practice award.
Course outline
To achieve the BSc (Hons) Professional Practice degree you are required to achieve 120 credits for a BSc Hons Degree and 60 credits for a non-honours degree. including the following mandatory modules:
NA6133: (20 credits) Semester 1: Evidence Based Practice – Dr Heather Baid (Mandatory).
NA6169 Quality Improvement Proposal (40 credits) Semester 2: Quality Improvement Proposal – Johannes Mellinghoff (Mandatory).
There are a range of optional clinical and non-clinical Modules available to you from our undergraduate programme. You will need to achieve 60 credits from the optional module selection. Please note there is a non-honours BSc degree early exit option, available after completing 60 credits worth of modules.
Select, Register & Accredit your Module Choices:
One registered on the Professional Practice Programme you will need to register for each module you wish to study on each academic year, to make up your credits to attain your degree. Select and register for your Post Reg Health Modules using the module codes outlined above: HERE
The RPL Process: You are also able to transfer previous academic credits achieved (usually within the last five years). You will need to complete an RPL application. Please contact the Course Lead for further details: d.miarkowska@brighton.ac.uk
Course Delivery:
Most of the modules are taught over one semester. Some of them require practical experience for enrolment. Teaching and assessment methods will also vary.
Entry requirements
Applicants to the course are normally expected to:
- Have a health or social care related qualification (e.g. Diploma of Higher Education Foundation degree) to a minimum of 120 level 5 credits OR hold a current registered qualification in health or social care with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the Health and Care Professions Council or equivalent Professional, Statutory, Regulatory Body
- Be currently practicing in the UK in a suitable practice setting but additional module specific rules may apply
- Have 6 months post qualifying experience
