Taking risks is important for my personal artistic development.
I am not somebody who takes naturally to drawing, especially when it is on paper. But I don’t let that stop me from trying my best and challenging myself.
I took 60minutes to draw a self portrait of myself, following a photograph.
It was a risk I took to progress my art forward, but I’m glad I did it. Here is the result!
It required a lot of concentration and focus, whilst not judging my ability or my appearances. Solely focussing in the shape and the shadows. I really enjoyed shading and drawing the hair by applying varied amounts of pressure to create flowing lines.
If I had to improve for next time, I would focus more on the jaw shape and ensuring the hair matched the photo in terms of parting and natural flowing hairline.
I would like to do more paper drawing in the future… to get back to the roots of where my art began. As a child doing scribbles and drawings on paper.
I can’t wait to try more!
